Welcome back to the guest blog. This month I’m interviewing a friend of mine. Her name is Cindy Fish. Before I bring her here and begin with the questions, I want to share with you how I met her. About two and a half years ago, on Sunday the pastor came up to the pulpit. He looked at the crowd and then began to tell everyone to pray for Cindy Fish. Her sister, Sue, asked the pastor to pray for Cindy. My family had told me who she was, but I couldn’t remember meeting her. It turned out she had been coming to the church a few times, but at the time she had gone to a hospital. Then a few weeks later, shortly before the service, the woman stood up and started talking. I looked at my sister and she said this is the one we prayed for. She was the one who went to the hospital. She was really sick and ended up in an emergency room but that was not all. She actually died and then came back. From there I eventually met her and we became good friends.
Now you know how we met, I now want you all to meet her. Let’s welcome her.
Hi, before I began to ask you questions, tell us about yourself.
Cindy: "My name is Cindy Fish, I'm 70 years old. I was born in Ligonier, a little mining town in Pennsylvania until I was eleven. My family moved to Akron, Ohio in 1960."
What is it like growing up in your family?
Cindy: “I had three brothers and a little sister. We were poor, I didn't realize it. We never went hanging and had clothes and shoes."
Oh, I had no idea. Even then, despite being poor, what is your favorite childhood memory?
Cindy: "Walking up the hills in the woods and swinging on the twisted vines. Dad made us all do a photo when we went home."
How old were you when you heard about Jesus?
Cindy: "I was probably seven or eight. We got saved. My mother came with us on special occasions. At the time, my sister was a baby."
When life gets rough, how do you deal with it?
Cindy: "Now I have the church. My church family is always there for me. I can turn to Jesus. I have always leaned on my brothers. It was so hard when they died."
Before you became involved with the church activities and became close to the church family, I heard you had a near-death experience. How did it happen?
Cindy: "I was very ill and had to have emergency surgery. I died during the surgery. They revived me and put me in a coma."
Did you see heaven, or anything when you had that moment?
Cindy: "No, I didn't see the light or feel God's presence. I had some very weird dreams."
When you came back, how would you change from that experience?
Cindy: "I wish I could have felt God's presence. Maybe I did. There was never any doubt in my mind that God saved me."
After you dealt with that, did you ask yourself why you came back?
Cindy: "Many, many times. I feel unworthy. Does He have something for me to do? What can I do to honor Him?"
If God brought you back, I don't think He is done with your story yet. He heard the church family's prayers and the people that prayed for you. I think there is a reason why He brought you back to the earth.
Cindy: “I don’t know what the reason is. I have asked that He guide me in whatever I do.”
Since that event, you have surrounded your life to God. It's that true?
Cindy: "Yes. I can feel His love for me. I'm trying to be a good Christian. I know I fall short, but I will always follow Him."
We all do. You, I and everyone else, fall short, but God is always there for us. He will guide us back on the track with Him. It's up to us to take that step.
As part of the closure, is there anything else you want to share with the readers?
Cindy: "Jesus died on the cross for us. He is God's son. Give Him your heart. I made many, many mistakes in my life. Jesus said to put them behind me, I have been forgiven. This in itself is a miracle.Follow His commandments. He loves you. Believe.”
Thank you, Cindy, for being here and sharing your story.
Cindy: “You are welcome. I thank God every day, I have learned so much from this church and Pastor Rich.”
