Welcome back. Today, we aren’t doing our normal quarterly blog featuring what’s going on in my life lately. We are doing something a little different. I’m going to tell you about my vacation and what happened there. Now, I have gone to this island before. A year ago, I went there for almost two weeks with my sister and another family. But this year just two of my siblings and I went to the camp for couple days. Throughout the weekend, I’ve shared some pictures on Instagram while I was on the trip. I had some time away from writing. I spent time out and about which you’ll see from the photos down below. It was really fun, which I’ll now tell you.
It was the first week of August. We (my younger brother and I) left the house Tuesday afternoon and arrived at our sister’s in a different state to go to the camp. But the three of us didn’t head straight to the camp. Instead, we stopped in Traverse City for a day. We booked one night at a nice hotel.
The downtown had shops and a lot of nice restaurants, and the lake, which is part of Five Great Lakes. We didn’t eat at the restaurants and grabbed food from the food truck. There is a square lot where a lot of small business food trucks make their food. I had vegan pizza and a small bowl of Mac & Cheese. Oh, boy, they were good. While we were there, we shopped around and went to the merch stores and entered one of the local bookstores. I bought a little and got a copy of Alice Hoffman’s newest book. It was on sale, so why not get it. We walked around the beach and had some fun with rocks and gaze at the water.
Afterwards we ate ice cream and headed back to the hotel and swam in the pool for almost an hour and then went off to sleep.
We left the hotel and drove straight to the campsite. No, we stopped at one restaurant for lunch. We didn’t eat that morning and felt hungry. We all ordered grilled cheese sandwiches and fries. Kind of funny. Three siblings ordering the same thing. LOL. The rest of the evening we set up the tent, which I will leave a picture here for you to see. Victor and Miranda did a good job setting up while I placed the poles together and shopped to get some food and grilled burgers, corn on the cob, and avocado dip with chips. After that we went downtown to look around and then, of course, we ate ice cream. We ate ice cream almost every night except one night.
Because the weather kept changing and we shifted our plans a bit. We didn’t go to the island on that day. They keep showing changes of rain and we decide to chill at the campsite and go biking and just enjoy the rest of the evening. We rode bikes and made veggie burgers and veggies in the foil and went back to town and got to see fireworks.
One thing you should know about me, I love fireworks. Most people aren’t too big fans of loud noises and flashes, but I’m not. I’ll put a quick video here to show off the pretty colorful fireworks. Isn’t it stunning?
The next morning, we left the campsite for the ferry. On the way, we quickly grabbed coffee and went over to the ferry and waited in the line. Usually, the line is longer when the weather is nice and sunny. But not this time. It was froggy, and the air was cool. While riding on the ferry to the island, I took a quick video of the view where we could see the foggy mist, as if we were entering an enchanted forest like from Frozen ll. If you see the film, do you remember a scene when Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and two of their friends enter the forest? That was happening here. Maybe not magically, but it felt that way. It was pretty cool.
First off, we found a place to grab something to eat and then took a long hike in the forest till we reached an airport field, which is located almost in the center of the island. It was pretty cool because last time I came to Mackinac Island: we didn’t hike or come this far in the forest.
We rested on the hill and decided to ride our bikes around the island, and off we went. It took about an hour and I grew hungry after that. We ate out by the water and shopped around. I brought some stuff, including a book set on this island. We rode back on the ferry and headed back to the campsite.
The next day it rained. Since we couldn’t do many activities outside in the rain, we ate in the tent. I did some writing on flash fiction to submit for the Fall Issue. A short romance story. After breakfast, we went out to see Black Widow, a Marvel movie and went out to the lake area and ate a big dinner and drove all the way to the coast and stopped to see Canada’s landmarks. I’ll leave a picture here so you can see it. The last one on the right side is a picture with my younger brother. If you look closely at these photos, you can see it. You see we weren’t too far. It was pretty cool.
By the next morning, the camping trip had ended. That’s all my friends. It was a short vacation, but it was worthwhile. We had a lot of fun and a good time.
